Clear Air & Energy Reduction in Soilab’s Industrial Workshops (UAE)

Enhancing Air Quality & Saving Energy With ASPRA Recirculation Systems

Sustainable Air Purification for Industrial Workshops in the UAE

The Soilab at the Sharjah Research Technology & Innovation Park (SRTIP) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) hosts a variety of industrial workshops, including those focused on textiles, wood, metal, 3D printing, electronics, and painting. Despite having proper ventilation systems in place, these workshops still faced high levels of dust and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) due to the diverse range of activities conducted.

To tackle this challenge, ASPRA Recirculation Systems and ASPRA INduct were implemented to purify recirculated air and minimize energy loss from excessive ventilation. The result was a substantial 80% reduction in aerosol concentrations and VOC levels, improving air quality while maintaining energy efficiency.

About the Project

Industrial workshops often struggle with maintaining clean air due to the variety of processes that release fine dust, fumes, and VOCs into the environment. Traditional ventilation systems attempt to manage CO₂ levels but fall short in removing harmful airborne pollutants, especially in warm climate regions where relying on outdoor fresh air is inefficient.

By integrating ASPRA Recirculation Systems and a specially designed ASPRA INduct unit with the fan coil units, Soilab successfully purified recirculated air, ensuring high indoor air quality without excessive ventilation. The project demonstrated how sustainable air purification solutions can significantly improve industrial environments while reducing operational costs.

Detailed Approach

Problem Description

Traditional ventilation systems at Soilab primarily aim to maintain low CO₂ levels, but in warm climates like the GCC, relying on outdoor fresh air is not always effective. Workshops need to balance air quality and cooling efficiency, without causing high energy consumption.

The problem worsens as fan coil units recirculate air for cooling purposes, but also recirculate pollutants, affecting both workers’ health and the quality of industrial processes.

The Solution

To ensure proper air quality in workshops, it was crucial to remove pollutants effectively while avoiding excessive ventilation, which would result in significant energy loss.

ASPRA Recirculation Systems were installed, along with a customized ASPRA INduct integrated with the fan coil units, purifying the air before it entered the cooling system. This helped eliminate dust, VOCs, and airborne pollutants, ensuring a safer and healthier workspace.

The Result

The ASPRA system effectively reduced aerosol concentrations and VOC levels by over 80%, even when workshops operated at full capacity.

In addition to improved air quality, the reduction in VOCs and airborne dust enhanced production quality, creating a cleaner, healthier, and more efficient working environment.
