Clear Air & Energy Reduction in Soilab’s Industrial Workshops (UAE)
Enhancing Air Quality & Saving Energy With ASPRA Recirculation Systems
The Soilab at the Sharjah Research Technology & Innovation Park (SRTIP) in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates (UAE), hosts a variety of industrial workshops, including those focused on textiles, wood, metal, 3D printing, electronics, and painting.Despite having proper ventilation systems in place, these workshops still faced high levels of dust and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) due to the diverse range of activities conducted.

Summary
1. Problem
High levels of dust and VOCs recirculating in workshops, and insufficient stream of fresh air from outdoors due to warm climate.
2. Solution
To remove pollutants sustainably by avoiding excessive ventilation and loss of cold air to outdoors. Additionally purifying air entering fancoils.
3. Result
80% Reduced aerosol concentrations and VOC levels (even at full workshop capacity).
Highlights
Reduced aerosol concentrations and VOCs by over 80%.
Purified recirculated air in fan coil units sustainably.
Improved indoor air quality without excessive ventilation.
Enhanced production quality by minimizing dust deposits.
Detailed Process
1. PROBLEM DESCRIPTION — Traditional ventilation systems in the Soilab aim to maintain low CO2 levels, but in warm climate regions like the GCC, relying on outdoor fresh air for maintaining clean indoor air is often insufficient.
Most of the air is treated through recirculation fan coils for cooling purposes, which unfortunately also recirculates pollutants, adversely affecting both people and processes within the facility.
The Solution
2. THE SOLUTION — To ensure proper air quality in workshops, it is crucial to remove pollutants effectively. Achieving this sustainably requires avoiding excessive ventilation, which can lead to the loss of cooled air to the outdoors.
Therefore, ASPRA recirculation systems were applied. Additionally, a specially designed ASPRA Induct was integrated with the fan coil units, purifying the air before it enters the fan coils.
The Result
3. THE RESULT — Substantial improvement in air quality was achieved. Aerosol concentrations were reduced by over 80% using a limited number of ASPRA systems, even when the workshops operated at full capacity.
Similar results were observed for VOC levels. This led to a clean and safe indoor environment, as well as a comfortable atmosphere. The ASPRA systems also enhanced production quality by significantly reducing dust deposits on surfaces. The reduction in VOCs resulted in extra comfort, as smells and odors were substantially diminished.
